What is the purpose of this organization?

To teach the performing arts - music, dance and theater - to the public in a way that provides a public service to individuals and the community. To integrate the community with art and artists, bringing about understanding and a more humane society through sharing and mutual experience. To promote a belief that art should be a part of our daily lives, that there is an artist inside each of us, and that by nourishing that part of ourselves, we will enhance our own lives, and the community at large. The organization is dedicated to developing and nurturing the entire spectrum of artists - the promising, passionate performing artists as well as the established, creatively ambitious performing artists -- in an environment of daring and caring. The goal is to produce and promote performances which reflect the diversity of talent and ideas in the global artistic community and which serve to enhance the lives and excite the minds of those who view them. We also intend to expose the general public to our philosophy and artistic model, encouraging everyone to incorporate art into their every day existence.

We strive to give value to art and creativity, so that it becomes incorporated into the daily lives of all people, both serious and recreational artists, as well as audience. We want it to be recognized as an essential element to living quality lives. Our goal is to develop and sustain all our students and performing artists in a way that allows their work to benefit the communities they live in, bringing about a more humane society by sharing the gifts of the creative spirit. We promote the concept that the quality of our lives is not measured by our economic development as much as by our creative development, not by how much we can use, but by how much we can give.

Art For People was inspired out of a belief that through art we can share the diverse gifts of humankind. Therefore, we must find a place where all people can feel connected to art, and are given the tools to get in touch with the artist within. We live in this place in our dreams, and the way we shape our lives will lead us to our future here. Here we will move with grace and strength and sureness. From our lips will come the seductive sounds of truth and clarity. We will see in the sumptuous colors of the universe, and all we do will be a masterpiece of meaning and poignancy. We will share in a community of freedom and creativity where our bodies and minds become the instrument of our inspiration. We will experience love and beauty that transcends depiction.

Here we will live with art as our lifestyle, music our language, dance our way of life and theatre the land of our expression.

What led to the development of Art For People?

A desire to promote the Arts in a comprehensive manner for the full benefit of the artists and the community, which is not being done enough in the market place.

What is the reason for starting this organization?

To fill the need in our lives and society for a complete, integrated organization dedicated holistically to the support and development of the arts in a way that benefits both the artist and the community at large. Many times artists are herded through classes and training like product on an assembly line, with no concern for the complete development of the artists' potential, either physically or spiritually. It is rare to see artists valued for what they contribute to society. More often we see artists and their art looked at as a commodity, to be bought and sold, and to profit from economically, not humanistically. Our focus will be on the humanistic. How can art improve our lives? How does art promote understanding? How will being an active part of the artistic community make a difference for me? For society?

We feel that the general public - the "amateur" (by that we mean the true definition - from Latin meaning lover, or a person who engages in some art, science, sport, etc. for the pleasure of it rather than for money) -has been discouraged from seeing how art is an integral part of each of our lives. So many of us don't even imagine we can get in touch with our "inner artist." It is Art For People's belief that art can be the direct line to promoting sharing and understanding among people of various backgrounds and cultures. Too often we see performing art - with all its potential to touch and enlighten us - created and displayed as something separate and distant, to be viewed, but not participated in. We know that true learning comes with personal experience, and that lessons taught are not absorbed in the same way as lessons lived. If all of us can feel the poignancy of great performance when we watch as an audience, how much greater will be the enlightenment when performing art is a shared experience. Even better, if we take it the next step and incorporate art into the simple functions of our day-to-day lives we can have even more impact. If our students and artists at every level can be supported, trained and developed with these goals as their conceptive principles, then the art they create - in theaters, arenas, halls and auditoriums, schools, hospitals, places of worship and homes - will truly contribute to the improved quality of our lives and our communities.

How is Art For People different from other performing arts organizations?

It will offer a more detailed, extensive and year-round (as opposed to seasonal) schedule of performances and an unusually comprehensive program that includes cradle to stage nurturing of artists. In other words, in addition to regular troupe and open classes in the three disciplines of music (voice) dance and theater, there are specialized seminars and workshops, student and intern exchange programs, community performances, new work performances, recitals, staged readings and artist debuts, in addition to fully-staged productions. Attention also is given to providing the opportunity for personal and social growth to the artists through community service and outreach programs. Emphasis will also be placed on offering courses that make all aspects of the performing arts accessible to the general public. For example, people who don't think of themselves as dancers will be taught the principles of movement and centering. The physics of body and tone of voice in conveying a mood or a subliminal message may be offered as a course to business people. How to use music as a way to influence the well-being of the elderly may be offered to care providers, etc.

Most other performing companies have a limited season, and provide only one, or a few, of the services we intend to offer. There is a tendency to invite the community in, or mix with the community, only for select or special occasions, readings, salons and tours. This perpetuates a feeling of separateness and "disconnected-ness" between artistic community, and the community-at-large. We want to create an environment where the artists and the audiences gain understanding and inspiration from each other, where they are working together toward the goal of creating art and sharing.

Finally, it is unusual for a group to integrate the three performing disciplines under one entity, most preferring to focus on one area, leaving it to the artist to try to create a balanced schedule of classes, practices, rehearsals and projects to fulfill the development of total creative ability.

How do you convince people who may not think Art For People makes sense?

Because Art For People is a new and unfamiliar entity, people may prefer to utilize the services of a familiar name, with a secure reputation.

Actually, the team behind Art For People is a group of highly skilled management professionals. Our group has extensive experience in business management and a reputation for commitment to clients. We are happy to provide any background information or references as requested.

What we are asking people to do, either as a new student, young or established artist, doubting member of society, or investor is a costly investment, both in terms of time and financial resources.

Of course there is always a perceived payoff risk vs. reward. Art For People believes strongly that when people get involved it will become apparent very quickly that any investment will reap great rewards.

There is a lack of understanding or education in the community about this concept.

This is exactly the reason this venture is so needed. Part of the mission is to educate the community to the benefit and need for this kind of fully integrated approach to the arts, both for the artists development, and the enhancement of the community. Art For People will conduct marketing campaigns and other educational projects to promote this new approach.

Reaching the ultimate goal of Art For People will demand a long-term commitment on the part of all participants. A change in society, a shift in the way people think, the acceptance of a new direction - these are all things that will come with time, but will require patience and faith in the core premise that art should be an integral part of each of our lives. A crusade to encourage each of us to nurture the artist within may, by necessity, start small, but all visionary ideas that are good and meant to be, will happen in time.

The founders of Art For People have experience in introducing new concepts to the marketplace, whether they be new and innovative business management tools, or creative approaches to age-old challenges. That is why we are confident that, although there may be some resistance at first to this new approach, it is more exciting, and ultimately more rewarding, to be in front of the trend than behind.

TOP

What is the pricing of Art For People product versus your competition?

Moderate for the field in the area of services offered. Teaching salaries will be competitive, scholarships will be offered to deserving and qualified candidates, and ticket prices will be commensurate with the type and caliber of artist and performance, as in the market place.

TOP

Are there any special offers?

The management team will conduct ongoing assessment of trends in the marketplace and potential benefits to the community to determine when special offers are appropriate. Art For People believes in placing a value on creativity and the arts. There will, of course be scholarships available to qualified students, and many programs will include free performances for the community. This will all be done in a way that does not denigrate the value or quality of the service or product being offered.
