Carl Watts Biography

Carl Watts, native of Washington, DC, has spent the last 25 years performing and teaching dance, fitness, strength and conditioning, aerobics and his own brand of flexibility and muscle fitness training to students around the world. Mr. Watts has developed his own strength and movement program called Body Dynamics. The philosophy of the program is that grace and fluidity should be a part of all our movement, whether it be performance, or merely moving with ease and alignment through our day to day lives. Body Dynamics focuses on movement exercises designed for promoting strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and aerobic fitness.

All of Mr. Watts' teaching programs combine the techniques of ballet, yoga, Pilates theory and muscle training with the practices of modern movement, blending innovation with anatomical wisdom.

Mr. Watts is devoted to helping others develop healthy fundamental dance and movement skills and discovering the joy of moving with grace and style. In creating Art For People, Mr. Watts hopes to share his vision of the Arts as a creative effort that benefits both artists and the community, and fulfills all our lives.

Mr. Watts developed his philosophy over many years of experience and work with talented artists and companies. He has performed in a variety of stage, film and television productions as a dancer, thespian, model and musician, including performances with the Cole-Harrison Dance Company, Howard University Dance Ensemble, Baha Jones Dancers, Ann Taverna Dance Company, Emerald Dance Company, Gateway Theater, New Theater, Ford's Theater, Reflections, Apollo Theater, and working with Richard Gordon, Carroll Fox, Tina Kashon, Bob Lark, Ida Pettiway, Inga Terry, and Mary Witiker.

His teaching spans the globe from New York to Nurnberg, including the Beers Studios in Vienna, Phil Cole Dance Company. He has danced and taught in most major cities of Europe. He has studied with the Dance Theater of Harlem School, Alvin Ailey's American Dance Center, Clark Center, Steps, JoJo's Dance Factory, and Hines & Hatchett DanceStudio (now Broadway Dance Center). He studied music at the University of the District of Columbia. Mr. Watts was a member of the panel of experts for dance from 1987-1993 and currently holds an appointments on the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

As a hobby, Mr. Watts runs a management consulting business, focusing on accounting, corporate and real estate taxes, financial planning and business development.
